Attardo Architecture & Design is a Maine based design studio concentrating on bespoke residential and institutional opportunities throughout Maine and New England. Founded by Paul Attardo, our body of work ranges from multi-building family retreats, new homes, transformational renovations, kitchen designs, private studio spaces and more. Expanding our Yarmouth office through virtual connectivity has allowed us to create meaningful designs throughout New England and beyond.
Our designs are guided by the belief that architecture is the fusion of site, needs, vision and collaboration. Design starts with a conversation. We enjoy learning about our clients by carefully listening to their thoughts and wishes, absorbing the dynamics of each site, considering views, natural features, and sun and wind patterns. We are informed by our clients, their visions, their interests, and their life experiences. We feel our creations are a thoughtful and timeless union of these varied influences.
We are committed to grounded, well detailed, and functional designs inspired by craftmanship, livability and a sense of belonging. We feel a successful project is one that unfolds itself as a building that was meant to be.
The natural environment inspires material selection, shapes and colors. The Maine palette offers endless options to connect inside spaces to the site they rest on. Rock formations provide the opportunity to anchor buildings to the landscape and define outside spaces. Influenced by the movement of the sun, rooms fill with light and vitality. The use of indigenous plants move with a gentle breeze and offer familiar fragrances and calming sounds. All senses are engaged.
Paul has always been inspired by agrarian architecture. Built out of need and purpose, the end result is driven by thoughtful consideration to use and functionality. A collection of outbuildings arranged in ways that create spaces intentionally communicate to one another. Proportion seems to fall into place once all needs are met.
Maine is filled with incredible creators and makers. We cherish the opportunity to work closely with them as we hone the finer points of a project. We feel fortunate to have a wealth of caring crafters who have a vested interest in the outcome of the project. The makers of our buildings become integral collaborators.
Intentionally separate from the practice of Architecture, volunteering in our local community gives us perspective, balance and a connection with others at a personal and meaningful level.
Reaching out beyond the world of design keeps us alert to varying insights and priorities. The act of being fully present and responsive to the needs of others has given us the skill to truly listen to our clients.
