Island Home

As a visitor travels the gravel drive to a point of land facing the islands of Penobscot Bay, you are first greeted by the barn. This element not only lets you know you have arrived, but also fills the functional needs for boat and island gear storage, along with guest quarters remote from the main house. More importantly, the barn is the gateway to the house, a divider between the activities of family and friends and the tranquility of the natural landscape. At the crest of this peninsula is a blissful ledge formation that was intentionally preserved early in the design process. The two pavilions of the main house edge out over the slope and sit lightly on the land.
